It started with a tree. A live oak tree that was planned to be cut down in order to create an outdoor classroom at our local public middle school. We decided as a small group of students that we should stand around it to prevent them from cutting it down. We presented reasons why the tree should stay standing and it worked. Our oak still stands! Now shade provides comfort to kids.
The vision was born. We began our movement of standing up to support what's right even if we're a small minority.
Very few kids cared to participate in helping others unfortunately,
but some kids did, had great ideas, and much passion for it!
It's those few that kept it going... so we kept creating and we started our site.
We produced our first videos while sharing our collaboration idea.
We were inspired by a song, "We Have a Dream" by Black Eyed Peas so we created our first "StandUP" music video.
We decided to make it and see if anyone cared out in the world using Youtube. It was the BIGGEST new form of communicating across the world for average folks like ourselves. We were hoping to inspire others. It did!
We heard positive feedback from around the world. It was a sign of the times.
